WHAT’S A FUNNEL?

A funnel is simply a way to direct traffic to where you want them to go. It’s like when you go to a big event that has people in brightly colored t-shirts, and maybe even signs, directing you where to go. A funnel is simply a digital way of directing your online visitors to where you want them to go. 

Now imagine you’re at a big event trying to find your way to the main building where the event is. You don’t know which way to turn and you might have questions along the way, like “Hey, where is the closest bathroom?” Or “Is there anywhere I can grab a cup of coffee?”  Now imagine that there are a bunch of smiling people in brightly colored t-shirts and signs directing you where to go. You feel at ease and you can easily make your way to the event. And you’re able to ask one of the smiling people in the bright shirts where to grab that cup of coffee, which they totally know the answer to.

How does that “funnel” experience set you up for the event? You’re calm, you’re ready, you’re caffeinated and ready to hear from the speaker at the event. Now, imagine the flip side. Imagine if you had to wander through a crowd of lost people, no one knows where to go, no one has had their coffee yet, people are getting irritated. There are no smiling faces and bright signs to guide you and answer your questions. If you actually make it to the event building how do you think your attitude is going to be? Stressed? Irritated? Not caffeinated and alert? Are you going to be ready to listen intently to what the speaker has to say? Heck no! Right?

The key to a great funnel is guiding your visitors, with excellence and care, to where they need to go. Again it’s about creating an incredible EXPERIENCE.

THE FIRST STEP TO AN AWESOME FUNNEL

The first key is deciding where you want your visitors to go. This might sound crazy simple but we see it done wrong all the time so heck yeah we’re going to bring it up.

Imagine you’re back at that big event trying to find the event building. But this time all those helpful smiling people aren’t one the same page about where they should be directing you to go. Some of them want to direct you to a product table and sell you some stuff, another smiling face wants you to stop and give them your email address, and another sign is telling you to go the other way to take photos at the photo booth for social media. How confusing and distracting would that be? 

Think about all the people who wouldn’t even show up for the event because they got directed to a different location! And we see this happening ALL the time! 

So, please for the love of all things holly pick ONE destination that you are directing your online visitors towards. This means your funnel should have ONE offer you are directing your traffic to. Not three different products, an email opt-in and oh yeah, please go check us out on social media too. Don’t do that!

The first step to an awesome funnel is deciding the ONE destination you want your online visitors to go. And making sure all signs are pointing in the same direction!

THE SECOND STEP

The second step to an awesome funnel is thinking about ALL the possible questions your visitors might have and then making sure to answer all the most important ones!

Now, let’s go back to the big event you’re at and how you’re trying to find the event building. Imagine if those smiling faces with the signs didn’t know the answers to the obvious questions most people would ask. There would be a lot of irritated people showing up to listen to the speaker. Yeah, you don’t want that. Right?!  

Heck no, you want to make sure everyone in a brightly colored t-shirt knows where the closest bathrooms are and where you can grab a bottle of water or a cup of coffee. The same needs to be the case with your funnel. What are the core questions or concerns your potential customer has? Then make sure to answer those questions and deal with those concerns. 

That will allow your potential customers to show up to your ONE offer well informed, concern free and ready to buy. Right?

Then the best funnels take it one step further. They sprinkle in positive testimonials from others who have already purchased this ONE item. This is like if those smiling faces, in the bright t-shirts, who are directing you to the event building were also telling you “You’re in for an amazing event!” “They are all ready for you and it is going to rock your world!” “Just wait until you see the speaker they are incredible!” 

Do you think those positive and encouraging words would be pumping you up as you got closer and closer to the event building? Heck yeah! Then the closer you get to the event building you start to hear the inspirational music pumping and you are already amped to be there and you haven’t even stepped in the building! 

That is what an awesome funnel does. It directs your online visitors to the ONE decided destination (ONE offer), takes care of any questions or concerns they have and get’s them so pumped up about your offer that they’re ready to buy as soon as they have the opportunity.

FAILURE ISN’T FINAL. GET BACK UP AND KEEP GOING.

ACTION STEPS

Take 30-minutes to map out your sales funnel. Here are the steps to take as you map out each step.

  1. Chose the ONE destination you want to direct all your visitors to. This means ONE offer!
  2. What are any of the questions and concerns your potential customers might have? Then choose the most important ones and make sure to answer all the questions and take care of all the top concerns.
  3. Sprinkle in some positive testimonials from previous customers. 

Remember you don’t just want to overload your potential customers with information. Make sure to map out your sales funnel in a way that informs AND inspires and gets your visitors amped to buy your killer product!
